In our increasingly pluralistic society, it is important to raise children with a greater awareness of others around them, especially those who are different.

"After age 9, racial attitudes tend to stay the same unless the child has a life-changing experience (Aboud, 1988). Before that, however, we have a good chance to help children develop positive feelings about their racial and cultural identity. We can also challenge the immature thinking that is typical of very young children. That's important because this type of thinking can lead to prejudice (York, 1991)." Heather Doner, a member of the Brevard Multi-Cultural Unity Council (BMUC) has created an effective and exciting 5-day curriculum to familiarize the students with 4 of the many existing cultures in Brevard county. Please click on the following links to view the flyer and the curriculum.

We need 7 volunteers to help Heather with this program. We also need at least 1 volunteer from each culture (African American, Native American, Puerto Rican and Mexican).
